“Las Quatas

The name is Spanish for,”The Twins.”

They remind  Sotero of his twin cousins on his Dad’s side.

“The idea came from using classical paintings as an indigenous statement to have more people who look like me, just in physicality but in culture.”

“The pose is inspired by Michelangelo ‘s Sistine chapel. If you look south of where God and Adam are touching hands (in Michelangelo’s painting of the Creation of Adam) there is a lot of art going on, this is a replica of one of the corbel art but indigenous theme the piece was long to work on .”

“The frame is a part of a sink cabinet door, it was inlaid with wood trim and then painted . The entire frame is  reinforced from the back ,it has beautiful ornamental design which are Mayan but strangely look like Asian or Thai.”

Water based on small panel piece of wood, the piece was then glued to a panel, hand made frame.  21” x 15″
